Kinesis, supported by Reuben and Miss Black America.
Saturday 1st March 2003, Bedford Esquires.
First up were Suffolk band MISS BLACK AMERICA. headlining more towards punk than indy
, M.B.A's powerful stage presence went hand in hand with their thrashing guitar choruses
and antagonistic political overtones. Front man 'Seymore Glass', with alcohol fuelled
enthusiasm produced strutting and passionate mic stand embraces, finally building up to
a Nirvana style stage-trashing at the end of the set. In contrast, the other band members
remained relatively reserved, accenting Glass's energetic performance.
Despite the conflicting
stage characters with in the band, M.B.A work impressively as a unit, with pretty guitar melodies
blending tightly with the melodic bass lines and Glass's gasping vocals.
A good set from a good
band, pretty much summed up by their final lyrics - "Shout it out we are Miss Black America". And
shout it out they did.
Next up were a band called REUBEN, they had a strong stage presence and were all great musicians
who obviously had lots of experience, they played powerful fiffs, some of which sounded a bit like
something 'Korn' would write, they didn't put on much of a show as Miss Black America, but played
just as well, a lot heavier and had a slow metaly edge.
Finally headliners KENISIS took to
the stage, they imediatly had a great presence and played powerful energetic riffs through many of the
songs, but also had a really good melodic edge too much like M.B.A., some of the songs were slow but
gave a great atmosphere and something that loads of people could mosh to. - A great band.
This was a great night and I would recomend these bands to anyone and if you missed out on this trio
on their joint tour, then ha ha you missed out big style, these were some of the best musicians to hit
Esquires in a while!
